Club Championship Final - Alan Agnew v Chris Tipper

The developing weakness on e6 after White's e4 advance on move 14, and the incursion of White's Bishop to d6 on move 19 both looked ominous. But in each case I felt tactically I could deal with any immediate related threats and something positive 'might turn up' for me ( although of course it would more likely be a case of a steady build up of multiple further threats by Alan). In the event, the 'something' was an accelerated thrust on the Queenside with 21. ..a5, followed by a welcome exchange of Queens. After this there suddenly appeared a very cosy defence - coordinating square for my King to reach d6 behind a sound cluster of central Pawns.
All to my surprise and relief ......

Club Championship Shared
The Club's internal competitions were both completed on Thursday.
Chris Tipper earned a draw against existing Champion Alan Agnew and they will be joint Winners of the Club 2017-18 Championship.
In the Under 100s Competition Andrew Wilson beat Will Pettican in their semi-final, and Neil Lassetter overcame Richard Williams in the other one.
Andrew has had an excellent year , and rounded it off with a well earned victory over Neil in the Final.
Well done to the winners, and thanks to all who took part.

New League Season Starts
The new League season starts this week, and we have 1 team in each division for the first ever time.
The 2nd Team start with a home match v Wigston 3, and the 4th Team host Braunstone 4.

Blues Pip The Knights To Harrod Cup Runners-Up Spot
An emphatic 6.1 - 1.5 win against Latimer earlier this evening means that the Blues took the Runners-Up spot in the Harrod Cup. Both the Blues and Knights finished on 7 points but the Blues had a superior game points difference.

Ashby Quickplay Tournament
There was an excellent turnout for last night's Quickplay Tournament, with 20 members taking part. After the dust had settled the winner was Andrew Wilson with a score of 5/5. The Grading Prize was won by Will Pettican with a score of 3/5. A full report and photos can be seen by clicking on the tab at the top of the page.
Colts Win The Harrod Cup
Congratulations to Andrew Wilson and his Ashby Colts team on winning this year's Harrod Cup. A 5.5 - 2.5 win against Wigston on Monday evening put them beyond reach of the chasing pack.
The Knights moved into 2nd place following a 5 - 3 win at Syston on Tuesday evening. However, the Blues could just pip them to the Runners-Up spot if they beat Latimer next Thursday in their final match.

Harrod Cup
We have entered 3 teams in the Harrod Cup this summer, and with 1 Round to go all are in with a chance of winning.
You can check all results to date on the Harrod Cup Results tab.
On Monday 3rd Sept Ashby Colts host Wigston. If either team wins the match then they will win the Cup. If they draw, then Ashby Blues & Ashby Knights are 2 of 3 teams who could draw level on points with them, and either could possibly end up winners.
The Knights are away to Syston on the 4th, and Blues away to Latimer on the 13th.
