Disappointing Week For The Club

It was a disappointing week for the Club last week, with both Ashby 1 and Ashby 2 losing their respective matches.

Ashby 2 were beaten 3-1 at  Market Harborough 2, in a match we might well have won. An early loss on board 2 for Larry on board 2, followed by a draw for Paul on board 1 against Ashby old boy Andrew Foulds, put us on the back foot. However, Tom and Steve on boards 3 and 4 were boh a piece up, giving us cause for optimism. Unfortunately, with an exposed King, and less than 2 minutes left on his clock, Steve was forced to accept a draw. Tom made a misjudged exchange of a Rook for a Bishop in his endgame and his Knight advantage was no match for his opponents Pawn superiority.

Ashby 1 were beaten 2.5 - 1.5 by top of the table Wigston 2. Despite a great win for Richard on board 1, and a good draw for Chris on board 3, both against higher rated opponents, our opponent's much higher rated players on boards 2 and 4 proved to be too much to overcome.

The full match score cards from both matches can be viewed from the Results tabs at the top of the page.
